This book is intended for people who already know Martin Luthers life and times, and who simply want to read some of his sermons for their content, little caring when and where and under what conditions they were written. When I set out to edit this book from the J.N. Lenker translation of 1905, my only aim was to create a book that was more enjoyable for people of today to read. I removed from the old translation every Ye, Thee, Thou, Shalt, Wilt, etc.; I restructured a few sentences for clarity; I changed the British spelling to American spelling, (such as: favour to favor); and there were a few words that no one hears anymore, and the reader would not immediately know what they meant, just as I didnt, so I looked them up and replaced them with todays equivalent. Why did I do this I did this so that todays reader can concentrate on what Martin Luther is actually saying without having to stumble through grammar, syntax, and things that simply dont further Gods or Martin Luthers agenda of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Isaiah 62:10b says: Smooth the highway, clear away the stones, lift up a standard for the people. Isaiah 57:14b says: Remove the obstacles out of the way of my people. There are many books and internet sites that teach who Martin Luther was, what he did, when and why. All of his sermons are listed and categorized in numerous places. And for a cost, a reader can own volumes and volumes of Martin Luthers writings. There is no shortage. But this solitary book is packed with 115 of Luthers sermons in easy to follow twenty-first century American English for the casual lone read. It took me two and half years to complete, and I hope it helps others to love Jesus as much as Martin Luther and I do. Hardback addition available at the Glass Page Books website.
